About

Barbara Roberts is a story teller from a long line of story tellers. In her former life she has worked in retail management, software development and testing and the most rewarding job of all raising two children. Through all that, Barbara kept her story telling alive by telling her stories to her children and writing down her ideas in notebooks.
Barbara was born in Virginia and moved all over with her military family. However, her heart has always been firmly planted in the Southern US where her family originated from. Many of the folk tales and folk songs that are so dear to her were passed to her from her family. The legacy of story telling was also a family trait, and many a summer night were spent telling tales around the campfire.
In 2015, Barbara along with her British born husband, Clive and daughter, Emma decided to make a huge move and crossed the Atlantic to Bonnie Scotland. In her new adopted home of Angus, Scotland, Barbara has found a wealth of new stories and inspiration.
Although Barbara has not been published yet she is currently working on her first novel, The Dumb Supper. This story is about two women in one family separated by one generation, who have participated in the secretive and obscure ritual of the Dumb Supper, as it is practiced in the American South. The story unfolds as a diary is bequeathed to one of the women by the other. Using the diary entries, she soon realizes that her family has been using a powerful form of ancient ritual magic with life altering results. But, is this entity really the ‘perfect’ partner that he seems to be? Or an ancient spirit who has been tied to their family for centuries?

Barbara has also attended two Chasing Time writing retreats in Arbroath, Scotland. She has also been busy writing flash fiction and short stories for entry into coming writing competitions. When not writing, Barbara loves reading, taking long walks in the beautiful Scottish countryside, going to village fairs and fetes and playing with her dogs, Ollie and Poppy.
