Barbara has been writing for what seems like all of her life. She started off by writing for the school newspaper in middle school and has spent many years working in software development in the US. Proof reading the technical writing and writing end user documentation was just one of her many duties. She left the corporate world behind in the US, and moved with her family to Scotland to concentrate on her fiction writing.
Barbara has submitted a flash fiction piece of 500 words to the 2017 Bare Fiction Magazine. The piece was titled ‘The Crows’. Bare Fiction Magazine will announce the winners on or before the 10th of January, 2018. She continues to work on several short fiction pieces for entry into various fiction competitions in 2018.
Barbara attended two writing retreats this fall hosted by Chasing Time Writing Retreats.
Barbara is currently working on her first novel, a story set in a small town on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. It is a story about a family, The Devereux with a long and mysterious legacy. It will feature two strong female members of the family, Bess in 1927, and Katy in 2007. They are both heirs to this legacy. Katy will discover what the legacy means to her in the modern age of 2007, while Bess will tell of how the legacy affected her life through diary entries. A diary which Katy inherits upon Bess’s death. This story will weave a tale of love, loss, loyalty, ritual magic and the ancient art of conjure all occurring within one family across many generations.
